  • Mercy Hospital Celebrates 25th Annual Mass for the Sick on the Feast of Our Lady of Mercy

September 28, 2012

Mercy Hospital, A Campus of Plantation General Hospital and an affiliate of HCA East Florida celebrated the 25th Annual Mass for the Sick on Monday, September 24, 2012 on the hospital’s grounds by the Biscayne Bay. Approximately 700 people attended the Mass to pray for the sick of the community on the feast of Our Lady of Mercy, patron Saint of Mercy Hospital. The Most Reverend Archbishop Thomas Wenski, Archbishop of Miami, the main celebrant at the Mass, was joined by pastors of Catholic parishes throughout Miami.

After the Mass, a rendition of an art installation in honor of Emeritus Bishop Agustín A. Román was unveiled. Family members of the late Auxiliary Bishop were in attendance. Mgsr. Román served Mercy Hospital as Chaplain from 1968 to 1973; his oversight within Mercy helped shape our mission and further our commitment to the healing mission of Jesus on which Mercy Hospital was founded in 1950. Bishop Román is best remembered for his work in the construction of the Shrine of Our Lady of Charity located next to Mercy Hospital.
