At Mercy Hospital, we rely on the generous support and giving of volunteers. Volunteers are associated with many facets of Mercy. Their skills are matched with the appropriate needs of our patients, families and staff. The volunteer program has participation in several departments throughout the hospital.

  • Assisting with the non-clinical needs of the patients, assisting visitors
  • Working in reception areas to greet patients and visitors, providing directions and information
  • Assisting staff with a wide variety of tasks

Prospective volunteers are required to complete an application, attend a scheduled Code of Conduct class and orientation, comply with Tuberculosis screening by having a PPD skin test (which is free of charge), show proof of required immunizations and pass a security/background screening (18 and older). New volunteers starting after November 1st must submit proof of having a flu shot. Flu shots are required November 1st through March 31st. Volunteers are also required to commit to one four hour shift per week

The information gathered from the application assists in determining the volunteer's availability, interests, and skills which are used to place qualified volunteers. Upon review of your Volunteer Application, you will be contacted by mail if additional information is needed. Once all the requirements are fulfill, we will set up a date to attend the required Code of Conduct class and orientation.

Teen opportunities are limited. We accept teen application during April and May with a starting date in June. You can continue to volunteer at throughout the year after the initial summer period. Teens must be a minimum of 16 years of age to apply. Parental permission signed by a parent or legal guardian is required. Once your application is reviewed, we will call and advise you of status.

All volunteers must commit to a minimum requirement of 100 hours of service. Letters and print out of hours will only be done after the 100-hour commitment has been met. Please allow six (6) working days to process requests for verification of service hours.
