Miami, FL – Over 1,000 persons attended the Second Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony hosted by Mercy Hospital – A Campus of Plantation General Hospital. The 30 foot tree was the center of attention at the event held on the south shore of the medical campus on the evening of December 5th.

Those present witness a live Nativity including live animals. The Lourdes Singers from Our Lady of Lourdes Academy and the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School Choir sang Christmas Carols throughout the night. Santa Claus arrived in a City of Miami fire truck with sirens blaring down Mercy Way and along Biscayne Bay to the tune of “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.” Santa was met at the tree by former Miami Dolphin Coach Don Shula. After a countdown by Barbara J. Simmons, CEO of Mercy Hospital, Coach Shula flipped the switch and that turned on 150,000 lights illuminating the Christmas tree.

After the tree lighting, Santa was available for photos while those who attended enjoyed hot chocolate and churros and Christmas cookies.
