HCA East Florida announces the appointment of Dr. Robert Saeid Farivar as the new Miami-Dade Market Medical Director of Cardiovascular Surgery. Drawing from his extensive experience as a cardiovascular surgeon, Farivar will lead the development of advanced cardiac programs and promote strategic growth initiatives at Aventura Hospital and Medical Center, Kendall Regional Medical Center and Mercy Hospital. In this new role, Farivar will have the opportunity to enhance the quality of cardiovascular care provided across the Miami-Dade market.

“Dr. Farivar is an exceptional surgeon and a pioneer in the field of cardiovascular surgery,” said Michael G. Joseph, HCA East Florida Division President. “We look forward to furthering our established cardiac programs under his leadership. HCA East Florida is committed to offering the communities we serve innovative, high-quality cardiac care.”

Farivar is an accomplished, board-certified, adult cardiovascular surgeon. He was the first surgeon in the United States to perform Transcatheter Mitral Valve Replacement (TMVR) at the Minneapolis Heart Institute, and has performed 22 of the approximate 150 Tendyne implants worldwide. He is also experienced in Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR), a minimally invasive valve procedure offered at Aventura Hospital and Medical Center. Minimally invasive valve surgery provides a safer treatment option for patients who may not be candidates for traditional valve surgery.

Dr Farivar was Chairman of Cardiothoracic Services at Allina, and the Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Minneapolis Heart Institute at Abbott Northwestern Hospital. Prior to his time at Minneapolis Heart Institute, Farivar served as Chief of Cardiovascular Surgery at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia and the Surgical Director of Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery, Cardiac Valve Clinic and TAVR Clinic at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Farivar completed his Cardiothoracic Surgery Fellowship and Residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts and General Surgery Residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. He earned his M.D. and Ph.D. from Boston University School of Medicine and his Bachelor of Arts, Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry major from Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut.
